Roll Up! The Homecoming Makes a Welcome Return to Newcastle under LymeOn Saturday 24th June, Newcastle-under-Lyme residents will once again witness their hometown being transformed into an artistic wonderland of musical, acrobatic, and theatrical talent as The Homecoming returns to the town for a fourth consecutive year.
Initially established by the Town Centre Partnership – the forerunner to Newcastle-under-Lyme Business Improvement District (BID) – The Homecoming celebrates the incredible life of Newcastle-born Philip Astley – the creator and ‘father of the modern-day circus’, who achieved international success as an equestrian rider and world-renowned circus owner.
Newcastle-under-Lyme BID continues to work closely with the Philip Astley Project to bring the circus back home and to life in Newcastle, and the family-friendly event – which has again been granted funding from the Arts Council England – aims to bring together people of all ages from in and around Staffordshire to enjoy a fantastic day of outdoor circus entertainment, whilst also raising awareness of Philip Astley’s work and celebrating the rich heritage of Newcastle-under-Lyme.
The best national and international street theatre performers will entertain audiences with their jaw-dropping talents and mesmerising performances from 10am – 3pm at various locations around the town.
Amongst the truly amazing acts performing this year are Acrojou, one of the UK’s leading street theatre and circus companies, the incredible juggling act Gandini, which was formed by world-famous jugglers, Sean Gandini and Kati Yla-Hokkala, and homegrown talent, Andrew Van Buren, the internationally acclaimed magician and illusionist. The festivities will also include the popular Artisan Market.
Visit the official Facebook page for more information about this fantastic showcase, and for regular updates of confirmed performers.
Appetite are excited to working in partnership with the Newcastle BID team to develop and deliver The Homecoming 2017.
The Homecoming is just one of many events planned to celebrate the life and works of local hero Astley, in the lead up to the 250th anniversary of his invention of the modern circus ring in 2018.
