AstleyFest Maker Workshop Programme

We are delighted to announce our AstleyFest Maker Workshop programme. An opportunity for you to play a big part in helping us to make the AstleyFest Festival happen and to ensure its a day to remember for thousands of people. AstleyFest is a brand spanking new festival, giving thousands of people the chance to enjoy a free and fabulous fun day out in Lyme Valley Park on Saturday 4 August 2018. AstleyFest will include circus performances, horse shows, military displays, hands-on activities and much more. There will be a tasty range of food stalls and stacks of fun ways to find out more about the man and myth of Philip Astley – Father of the modern circus.  See here for further details www.philipastley.org.uk

We are looking for groups to be part of a range of fun workshops where you will learn tonnes of new and interesting stuff using the latest technology from some of the best makers in the business, Wavemaker. If you would like to take part in any of the workshops please email us on askus@appetitestoke.co.uk to book your place. Please note, places are limited.

Please see the table below for possible dates of sessions. Please note the dates are relatively flexible and we will aim to work with you to schedule the workshops in.

The Philip Astley Project is supported by National Lottery Players through the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Workshops

1. CIRCUS Poster Design Workshop - Design Your Own Vintage Circus Poster

In this session you will get the chance to learn new skills to create your very own vintage poster.
You will learn the basics in image and design software ‘Adobe illustrator’ and will have lots of fun with graphic design. We will draw our inspiration from classic circus posters that Philip Astley used to promote his spectacular circus events hundreds of years ago. These posters will be exhibited at AstleyFest on 4 August 2018 at Lyme Valley Park

Places available per session: 10

This workshop will help you develop new skills in design and making. You will work with a brief set by the team, get hands on with design software, stencils, props and materials to make site dressing items and signage.
We will work on branding and using our in-house laser cutter to create bespoke objects based on your designs for the festival.
This will incorporate key messages and motifs about Philip Astley into the very fabric of the festival site, whilst ensuring the site is as accessible and safe as possible.
