Newcastle BID and Appetite are proud to present The Homecoming 2018.

Bringing some of the best in contemporary circus talent to town, roll up with your family and friends for jaw-dropping juggling, giant balloons, boozy acrobatics and more.

Birthplace of the founder of the modern circus, Philip Astley, join us and celebrate Newcastle’s rich heritage in this fab family day out.

The Homecoming has been developed and delivered by Newcastle BID (Business Improvement District) in partnership with Appetite. To find out more follow The Homecoming on Facebook or visit their website. Follow the Town Crier as he announces each event or make your own merry path around Newcastle town centre, either way, you're in for a day filled with some very special circus treats!

The Line Up:

Merry Maker by Kazzum

10.30am    Location: from High Street to Market to outside Wilkos
11.45am    Location: from Wilkos, up Castle Walk and onto Ironmarket
2.00pm      Location: Ironmarket down Castle Walk to High Street
3.30pm      Location: on Ironmarket

Lasts: 30 mins

Nothing makes you merrier than a one-minute rap on a three-wheeled trike…

Led by emerging spoken word artist Arji Manuelpillai, this very merry rapper entertains and interacts with unsuspecting passers-by as he regales them with a personal rap, on the spot! He brings smiles for free, making the ordinary extraordinary as he freestyles about their surroundings, the people they are with, the tree they are sat next to or the food they eat!

Children, teenagers, mums and grandparents alike love his zany vibes - this smile raising walkabout offers audiences a real treat, their very own rap.

The Giant Balloon Show by Dizzy O'Dare

11.00am
2.00pm
3.45pm

Location: Outside Wilkos
Lasts: 45 mins

The Giant Balloon Show will have audiences in stitches and in awe simultaneously. Expect feverous balloon sculptures, high energy comic performance and of course the all-important giant balloon!
Take everything you know about balloons; twist that into a theatrical experience, add an award-winning clown and an 80's soundtrack and you have The Giant Balloon Show!

Cirque Du Miserables by Kitsch 'n' Sync

11.10am    Location: from Ironmarket to High Street
12.55pm   Location: from Wilkos to Castle Walk then Ironmarket
3.10pm     Location: from Ironmarket to Castle Walk then Wilkos

Lasts: 30 mins

Roll up, roll up, for the utterly dismal, mesmerizingly moribund and sorry affair that is 'Cirque Du Miserables'. Prepare to be completely underwhelmed as our tepid trio will attempt to titillate you, with a trick or two (maybe just the two)... something vaguely entertaining with balloon modelling and tiny dog taming, coming to a town near you!

The terribly tremendous trio Kitsch 'n' Sync return with a very special Philip Astley inspired performance, especially commissioned by The Homecoming.

Project_Vee by Circus Geeks X PanGottic

11.45am and 2.30pm
Location: High Street by Lancaster Building
Lasts: 20 mins

Juggling meets roulette wheel: danger, skill and unpredictable moments. Project_Vee is a nod to a Soviet-era circus act, remixed for the 21st century. When steel, concrete and motors meet, Project_Vee takes juggling in a different dimension. Literally.

PUB by Molly Orange

1.30pm and 4.00pm
Location
: Ironmarket by Yates Wine Bar
Lasts: 30 mins

Set in a failing old fashioned boozer, our PUB landlord and landlady have a big decision to make. Go hipster or go hungry. PUB is a farcical look at how gentrification hits its communities hard, and the choice we have between clinging on to the past or chasing the zeitgeist. Featuring acrobatics, juggling, the odd pint of Guinness and a fiery finale.

Full Circle by Avanti Display

12.15pm and 3.30pm
Location: High Street Near Guildhall
Lasts: 40 mins

Are they incompetent council workers or is it a piece of performance art? What began as a game now is starting to look a bit precarious. Where have they gone? Now what do we do?.............
What starts as a slow and intriguing performance, builds gently through to suspense, hilarity and unforeseeable consequences. Just how many buckets do they need? Now it’s starting to look a bit precarious. That’s a lot of buckets!
Spectacular!
